Silicone Manufacturing Services and Supply Models

Eight service blocks covering design, tooling, moulding, finishing and volume supply, plus two cooperation models: direct purchase of production, or an optional advisory service for customers who keep their own manufacturers.

This page covers the capability itself; for the full path from scope and materials to working models and sample-to-volume, see custom silicone manufacturing.

Eight blocks, from concept to shipment

A silicone part that has to survive assembly, testing and volume production depends on more than pressing rubber: the structure must be mouldable, the compound must match the duty condition, tooling and process must agree, and the batch must stay stable.

We split the work into eight blocks that can be ordered separately or as a whole chain, so a customer only buys the part of the chain they lack.

Scope and cooperation terms are confirmed per project. The lists below describe what we can take on, not a fixed package.
Service overview: design and sample development workbench
Structure, appearance and sample sign-off from the design stage become the basis for tooling and volume production.

Service blocks

Eight blocks, orderable one by one

Each block can be ordered alone or combined with its neighbours into a full programme.

01 · Design

Product and visual structure design

Product design from concept, solving structures that cannot be moulded, appearance that looks generic, and files that cannot be manufactured.

Scope

  • Product structure and industrial design, packaging design
  • Renders, layout visuals and launch material
  • Iteration of existing models, plus brand and catalogue assets

Charged by: project fee for design work; packaging and physical material at cost.

02 · R&D

Compound development and sampling

Custom silicone compounds and processes based on duty condition, performance target and market requirements.

Scope

  • Material selection, special compound development, mixed compound supply
  • Colour matching and dedicated process routes
  • Sample builds with test reports, to cut trial iterations

Charged by: project fee for development and sampling; compounds and primers supplied by volume.

03 · Tooling

Moulds, jigs and fixtures

Tooling for prototype and volume production, matched to the moulding method so that tolerance and yield hold up.

Scope

  • Aluminium, copper and steel moulds
  • Prototype and production tooling, jigs and fixtures
  • Trial runs with dimensional and defect reports

Charged by: mould quoted by structure and cavity count; ownership and storage agreed in the contract.

04 · Moulding & finishing

Moulding processes and surface finishing

Compression, LSR injection, potting, blow moulding and composite moulding of silicone with metal, plastic and PCBA.

Scope

  • Moulding: compression, LSR injection, potting, blow moulding, silk-screen and spray moulding, dispensing, extrusion, calendering
  • Combination: single colour, multi-colour one-shot, bonded assembly
  • Finishing: in-mould transfer, PU coating, laser colour change, plasma activation, pad printing
  • Bonding: plasma treatment, primers, controlled-temperature cure and pressing

Charged by: quoted per part by process route, cavity count and finishing steps.

05 · Volume ramp

Process optimisation and equipment retrofit

Yield and unit cost are usually decided by process detail, not by the machine alone: venting, cure profile, demoulding and take-out automation.

Scope

  • Process flow development and moulding optimisation
  • Machine retrofit and dedicated press configuration
  • On-site setup, operator training, troubleshooting

Charged by: project fee, or included in the supply agreement for direct purchase projects.

06 · Supply

Contract manufacturing and supply management

Volume production with quality control, plus supply-chain coordination for customers who need several part families from one window.

Scope

  • Volume moulding, assembly and packing
  • Incoming, in-process and final inspection with records
  • Purchase follow-up and project management

Charged by: part price including material, processing and manufacturing margin; see the cooperation models below.

07 · Compliance

Certification, testing and IP support

Documents that a product needs before it can be listed: material reports, testing, factory audit support and IP filings.

Scope

  • Factory audit and compliance system coaching
  • Third-party test report coordination
  • Patent and copyright filing support

Charged by: per report or per project; third-party fees passed through at cost.

08 · People

Technical training and staffing support

Shop-floor skills are the constraint in silicone: press setting, compound mixing, colour matching, inspection and dispensing.

Scope

  • Post-specific training for press operators and inspectors
  • Compounding, colour matching and dispensing courses
  • Technical staffing referral

Charged by: course and headcount for training; referral terms agreed per case.

Cooperation models

Two equal routes: custom production, or pre-project engineering review

Most silicone factories mould to a drawing and stop there; few review the risk before tooling. When an overmolding or bonding scheme is wrong, the tooling, samples, reliability testing and development weeks all become sunk cost.

AAASIL offers two equal routes. The choice follows your supply chain and where responsibility should sit — not the price level. Both routes run through the same engineering review standard.

01 · Custom production

Custom production (direct purchase)

We open the tooling, manufacture and carry quality, delivering finished overmoulded parts in one chain.

Responsibility and pricing

  • Responsible party: we are the manufacturer and answer for quality, dimensions and lead time; the customer has a single interface.
  • Price structure: material, processing and a reasonable manufacturing margin. No advisory fee is added.
  • Technical work: drawing review, material selection, process confirmation, trial moulding and first-article approval run inside the manufacturing flow, with the corresponding documents issued.
  • Changes and defects: process adjustments and quality issues are closed internally; the customer approves the result.

Suited to: customers who want one responsible party, a single window and a simpler supply chain, or whose structure and process are already settled and who need stable manufacturing.

02 · Pre-project review

Pre-project engineering review (advisory)

Drawing review, material selection, process route planning and supplier follow-up, catching risk before it becomes an expensive trial-and-error bill.

Scope of service

  • Material selection justification
  • Process route planning
  • Process risk assessment
  • Supplier background checks and recommendation
  • Sample follow-up
  • Trial production control
  • First-article coordination
  • Volume order follow-up
  • Quality issue coordination and delivery follow-up

Suited to: customers with an existing supplier base or a multi-site capacity plan who lack in-house silicone process judgement; also overseas buyers building a controllable local supply chain.

Same engineering review standard: material selection and process assessment do not change with the commercial model.

How the two models differ

Item01 Custom production02 Pre-project review
Our role Manufacturer Technical adviser, not the manufacturer
Who produces Our own lines and tooling A supplier chosen by the customer or recommended by us
Quality and delivery responsibility Carried by us Carried by the manufacturing party; we own the technical route and coordination
Cost structure Part price (material, processing, manufacturing margin); no advisory fee Technical start-up fee plus a per-batch advisory fee
Technical resources needed from the customer Low; single acceptance interface Involvement at key decision points; technical judgement provided by us
Typical situation Concentrated responsibility, simplified supply chain, faster ramp Existing supplier base, technical gatekeeping or multi-site capacity

Neither model is positioned as better: the choice follows the customer's supply chain structure, in-house capability and preferred split of responsibility, not the price level.

Advisory fees and settlement

Standard model: technical start-up fee plus a per-batch fee.

  1. Technical start-up fee: charged at signing, covering drawing review, preliminary technical study and supplier screening. The amount is assessed per project and is fully creditable against later advisory fees.
  2. Advisory rate: 10% of the ex-tax value of each batch accepted by the customer.
  3. Fee base: excludes mould cost, freight, third-party testing fees and duties.
  4. Settlement: the fee for each batch is calculated after customer acceptance and offset first against the remaining start-up fee balance; once the balance is used up, each batch is invoiced separately.
  5. If the project does not reach volume: the start-up fee is non-refundable and is treated as the cost of preliminary technical input.

Boundary of responsibility

The advisory service covers the technical solution, supplier screening and process coordination only. Final product quality and delivery responsibility rest with the manufacturing party. We do not replace the manufacturer's quality responsibility as an adviser, and we do not guarantee a manufacturer's capacity or lead time.

Four points to agree in advance

  • Advisory service is optional: a customer may purchase product only, without the advisory service, and the product price and delivery terms are unaffected.
  • Sourcing traceability: where we issue the process route and recommend a supplier for the project, orders placed directly or indirectly with that supplier within the agreed period are subject to the advisory fee above.
  • Samples excluded: sample orders do not attract an advisory fee; the fee applies to accepted volume orders only.
  • Same assessment criteria: material selection and process assessment follow the same standards in both models; the cooperation model does not lower the technical requirement.

For how the models play out in practice, see direct purchase or advisory supply chain: which responsibility structure fits and how advisory fees are calculated and settled. The model is confirmed before quotation; a mid-project change is re-assessed and re-quoted. The full deliverable list and inquiry form are on advisory supply-chain service; tool ownership and sample fees on sampling and tooling rules; file handling on confidentiality and NDA.

FAQ

Questions about how we work

What is the difference between direct purchase and the advisory service?

In direct purchase we are the manufacturer: we open the tooling, produce the part and answer for quality, dimensions and lead time, and the part price includes material, processing and manufacturing margin with no advisory fee. In the advisory model the part is made by a manufacturer the customer selects; we provide material justification, process route planning, risk assessment, supplier checks, sample follow-up, trial control, first-article coordination, order follow-up and quality issue coordination, while final quality and delivery responsibility stays with the manufacturer.

How are advisory fees calculated?

A technical start-up fee is charged at signing for drawing review, preliminary study and supplier screening, and is creditable against later fees. The advisory fee is 10% of the ex-tax value of each accepted batch, excluding mould cost, freight, third-party testing and duties. Each batch is settled after acceptance, offset first against the start-up balance; the start-up fee is non-refundable if the project does not reach volume.

Can we buy parts without the advisory service?

Yes. The advisory service is optional and does not change the product price or delivery terms. Sample orders carry no advisory fee, and material and process assessment follow the same criteria in both models.

Can a single service block be ordered?

Yes. Design only, sampling only, tooling only, moulding and finishing only, or volume supply only are all possible, and the remaining blocks can be added later without restarting the technical file.
